How can I make this essay intro better? Does it make sense? 10 points**?

There was a man once who dedicated his life to his profession. As a driving instructor, his outlook on life was similar to that of his driving. “Always look ahead, don’t worry about what is behind you,” he would tell the inexperienced adolescents in the seat next to him. He, of course, said this only moments before being rear ended by an eighteen wheeler, and dying minutes later on the tarmac. If he was given a chance to look back at what happened, surely he would agree that what is behind you can be quite significant as well. Hosseini is a man that would have agreed with this newfound philosophy. In his novel The Kite Runner, Hosseini suggests that one’s past can be quite significant, whether positive or negative, in his or her present life and future.
