The kite runner by khaled hosseini similar to mice and men by john steinbeck?

I'm getting tutored and i need to know similarities between these two books to write an essay for my english 10 final... i'm thinking about writing about the main characters of these books because they were friends.. but i just want some ideas what i should write in my essay.. if you could help that would be great and i'm not really familiar with the book mice and men because i read it in the beginning of the school year..
